The UF Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine offers a comprehensive rotation in lung transplantation. This experience provides pulmonary trainees with focused training in pre- and post-transplant management, including evaluation and listing of patients with advanced lung disease, donor selection and ICU management, perioperative and immediate post-transplant care, and longitudinal follow-up of transplant recipients. Trainees also gain unique exposure to extracorporeal life support as both a bridge to transplant and recovery.

Fellowship Program Overview
The Lung Transplant Fellowship at the University of Florida is a one-year advanced training program designed to provide comprehensive clinical and procedural experience in the management of patients undergoing lung transplantation. The program offers in-depth exposure to pre- and post-transplant care, including evaluation and listing of patients with advanced lung disease, donor selection and management, perioperative care, and longitudinal follow-up of transplant recipients. Fellows also gain specialized experience in extracorporeal life support as a bridge to transplant and recovery.
Applicants must have completed at least six months of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine training prior to participation, and the fellowship emphasizes mastery of transplant referral criteria, recipient selection and contraindications, donor organ evaluation, immunosuppression management, and recognition and treatment of post-transplant complications.
The curriculum is structured over a full academic year and includes dedicated rotations in the transplant ICU, inpatient transplant service, and outpatient pre- and post-transplant clinics, along with participation in donor call and multidisciplinary selection committee meetings. Fellows receive extensive procedural training and are expected to meet UNOS certification requirements through direct involvement in transplant care and donor procurement. Additional time is allocated for research, electives, and vacation, with an expectation of scholarly productivity. Graduates are prepared for careers in academic lung transplantation and advanced pulmonary medicine, equipped to manage complex transplant patients across the continuum of care.
